One of the hardest things for me to do when I’m in the midst of a trial or challenging season is to control my focus. My human frailty often distracts me from heavenward faith. I can easily become subconsciously obsessed with anything that will distract my mind from feeling pain, stress, and sadness. Social media, entertainment, books, and other things can become negative tools that keep my heart from settling down to focus on the One, the Only One, who can bring peace, hope and a focus-shift from the temporal to the eternal.

As I have contemplated this problem of my focus over many years, the Lord has given me a beautiful tool that almost always draws my eyes off of the problems and circumstances around me and brings me back to His heart-worship music. Basking in the deep truth of the gospel through well written hymns and worship songs always reminds me of the power and love of my Father. I encourage you in this time of uncertainty to bask in the presence of the Lord through song. When we choose to worship and adore the Lord despite our circumstances, there is something profound that happens in our hearts.

In closing, here are two things that I hope will bring you encouragement and help keep your focus lifted toward the Faithful One:

Heb. 10:19-23

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
